Backpacking 101

The Backpacking 101 2 Day Workshop will give you the BASIC Introduction to Backpacking. This is a 2 day class. Class 1 is instruction. OPTIONAL – Class 2 will be an overnight 7-12 mile backpacking trip.
Backpacking 101 – What we will cover:
Planning Tips, Gear Review, Choosing your meals, Understanding your fitness level, Understanding the basic skills needed, Review Gear Lists, Basic First Aid Kits, Organizing your backpack, and Leave No Trace Principles.
After lunch we will pack up the equipment being supplied to demo and take a short hike.
Please bring refillable drink container and bag lunch. Wear closed toes comfortable (not new) shoes. Bug repellent and sun block, rain poncho should be brought as well.
Ages 12 and above – must be accompanied by parent/guardian.

If you have your own pack, please feel free to bring it. This is a great opportunity to test out your gear. If there is rain in the forecast, please bring poncho/rain gear.
*Please bring your lunch – we will break, but there will not be time to go off property.

We will plan the overnight hiking trip for the next day at the end of class. The hike will be a 7-10 mile overnight trip to provide you a hands-on opportunity to try out all you learned, get comfortable with gear, and give you the trail experience.
Primitive Camping at our location is included on Thursday night at no additional cost equipment provided if needed.
